SELLING AIR TO THE SKY
An Epic Zen Limerick
by Maja Apolonia Rodé
Part I
There once was a fellow named Ron
whose persistence went on and on.
He sat and he sat,
till he knew he was That,
beyond the beyond the beyond.
Now he has a new name
and the sword of Truth is his game.
If you’re playing the fool
he will use his tool
till your head and the sky are the same!
The price for Truth teachings is high.
So, let the buyer beware of the buy.
The cost is your life.
What you get is a knife
from a man who sells air to the sky!
But it’s really a bargain, you see.
Pay one price and then everything’s free!
It’s such a great deal
trading dreams for the real.
Just offer your head and you’ll see!
Part II (24 years later)
There once was a person like you
who didn’t quite know what to do.
She sought and she sought
but it was all for naught
for she already knew what she knew.
Now, she knows that she knows,
no matter what others suppose.
If you think she’s below you
because there is no you,
you can’t see what’s under your nose.
The price of delusion is high
when a truth is perceived as a lie.
We all pay the cost
when heart-wisdom is lost
to a seer who’s blind in one eye.
So, don’t place your heart as the bet
in the game “Have You Gotten It Yet?”
No path is above
the living of love —
and that isn’t something to “get.”
Part III
Don’t trade your truth for the lies,
when you’re already holding the prize.
Take heart and stay true
to what’s true in you.
This is how love becomes wise.
And include yourself in the loving,
but forget the below-and-aboving.
The world becomes true
when you see it is you,
for without you, there’s actually nothing.
Life is a gift to receive
beyond what you think or believe.
One step at a time,
emergent, sublime,
open your heart and perceive.
And, you don’t need to go it alone
or follow some one who was shown.
Your unique seeds
are what Life truly needs
in the garden of all that is grown.
